Alone, together

"On the contrary," I felt compelled to reply, "it is precisely because there does not seem to be any God looking after us that we need to look after each other."

We need to look after each other regardless.

And this tells us we are not alone.

Difficult to believe you... You mean I'm not alone on the planet? You mean the people around me are real? I thought I had invented them to keep me company. I'll go and I'll pinch each one very hard to make sure they truly exist. And I'll ask them if they want to look after me. I could use a helping hand presently. Take care, possible Andrew!

Eh... I am not sure that you are really there Claude. I think someone may be playing tricks on me, or possibly I am playing tricks on myself.

Those hit by that white swirl need to be convinced that they are not alone, right now,... convinced by people though.

If a stranger approaches you and gives you a good pinch, don't call the cops, Andrew. I paid someone to go to Scotland and find out you're really there. It's costing me a fortune. But I know you'll be happy to pay half to help me out. Thanks in advance!

My contribution is in the post, although if it never arrives then you may presume that I don't really exist. I may try that logic on the tax department too. "Dear taxman, I am a figment of your imagination, so please stop sending me bills as there is nobody here."
